Our history
The buildings on site were created by Morton and Delia Barrett to form a part of their Cabinet Making and furniture restoration business. Over the years some nine trainees were taken through their five-year apprenticeships and many graduated to establish their own businesses locally. The business relocated in 1982 and since then a number of firms, from design architects to crystal electronics manufacturers, have benefited from the quality accommodation which the Barretts developed at Crewkerne. In 2000 Enterprise House opened its doors as a centre for enterprise. While there is an ancient association with South Somerset on all sides of the present family, many generations of Barretts have had bases and businesses in the area, including, since the 1800s, the direct line of Jeremiah Barrett, his son William Barrett (along with brothers Samuel Barrett and Thomas Barrett) and his son Robert Barrett (along with brother, Edwin Barrett). After the independent manufacturing and craft business of Morton & Delia Barrett on this site since 1970, Enterprise House itself is now managed by Marcus Barrett.
